Kids BJJ

What Is The AFG Kids BJJ Program?

Our Kids BJJ program introduces the fundamentals of Jiu-Jitsu, while focussing on the development of each Kid Grappler's motor skills, balance and coordination. In the early stages of this program, our Kid Grapplers are first taught the basic Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) movements and positions only. Once the student has proven their ability to be disciplined in a competitive situation, Instructors will gradually begin to introduce advanced positions and submission techniques. A key emphasis is placed on the development of each individual student's behavioural skills, such as:

  • Motivation
  • Discipline
  • People Skills
  • Problem Solving
  • Respect
  • Self Improvement
  • Teamwork
  • Trust
  • Stress Management
  • Tension Reduction
  • Persistence
  • Sportsmanship
  • Confidence
  • Logical Thinking

What To Expect In Your First Class

A typical Kids BJJ class begins with a warm-up and light calisthenics, followed by fun activities involving functional movements and grappling fundamentals. Every class is finished with a cool-down and stretching. A Beginner Grappler will learn the main BJJ positions, transitions and submissions in a controlled setting, under direct supervision of an Instructor or Senior Grappler. Kid Grapplers usually notice improvements in their motor skills, balance and flexibility within 4-6 weeks of training in the program. We highly recommend all Kid Grapplers to participate in classes while wearing the traditional Jiu-Jitsu Gi or any martial arts kimono. It is okay if one is not available, jogging pants or shorts with a t-shirt will be fine to attend class.
